IFS Examination – Indian Forest Services Exams

The Indian Forest Services Examination is divided in two successive stages:

  1. Civil Services (Preliminary)

This examination is for the screening and selection of candidates for Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination.

The Preliminary Examination consists of two papers of Objective type (multiple choice questions).

This examination is only a screening test. The marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination will not be counted towards determining final order of merit in Main examination.

  1. Indian Forest Service (Main)

The Main Examination will consist of written examination and a personal interview.

The written examination will consist of 6 papers of conventional essay type.

Candidates who obtain minimum qualifying marks in the written part of the Main Examination will be called for personal interview.

The total marks obtained in written and personal interview will determine final ranking.

UPSC conducts the Indian Forest Service Main examination after the preliminary examination once every year.

Only Candidates who have written the preliminary examination and declared qualified by the Commission can apply online for the IFS main examination on www.upsconline.nic.in

Age Limit

A candidate must be at least 21 years old and should be less than 32 years old. The upper age limit is relaxable for some castes, Ex-servicemen and differently abled candidates.

Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Forestry, Geology, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Statistics, Zoology.

Constraints in selection of two subjects:

Candidates will not be allowed choose the following specific combination of subjects:

(a) Agriculture and Agricultural Engineering

(b) Agriculture and Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science

(c) Agriculture and ·Forestry

(d) Chemistry and Chemical Engineering

(e) Mathematics and Statistics

(f) Of the Engineering subjects – Agricultural Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering and

Mechanical Engineering- not more than one subject

Interview for Personality Test

The personality test will be conducted by a board of members who will test candidate’s knowledge in Academic subjects as well as Current Affairs – State, National and International, General Knowledge, Latest discoveries and Inventions in the world.

The personality test carries maximum 300 marks.
