GATE 2020 – EXAM PATTERN

The GATE 2020 exam will be conducted on 1st, 2nd,8th & 9th of February 2020.The aspirants are advised to understand the Exam pattern to get the knowledge of question distribution, syllabus etc.

Gate Exam pattern Details:

  • Mode of Examination: The Examination shall be conducted as CBT mode (Computer based Test).
  • Question Type: MCQs & Numerical type questions will be asked in the Examination. The question paper consists of 65 questions for a total of 100 Marks.
  • Papers: GATE 2020 Examination will be conducted for 25 Papers/Subjects.

Negative Marks for Multiple Choice Question. No Negative Marks for Numerical Type

  • Time Duration: The Exam Duration will be 3 Hours. Candidates will be permitted to occupy their allotted seats 40 minutes before the scheduled start of the examination.
  • Pattern of Exam: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) carrying 1 or 2 marks each in all the papers and sections. NAT(Numerical Answer Type) questions carrying 1 or 2 marks each in all the papers and sections.
  • Marking Scheme: For a wrong answer chosen in a MCQ, there will be negative marking. For 1-mark MCQ, 1/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer. Likewise, for 2-mark MCQ, 2/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer.  

Exam Duration – 3 hrs; No. of Questions – 65

Numerical Answer Type (NAT) 1 or 2 Marks No negative Marking

Exam Date – 1st, 2nd,8th & 9th of February 2020

Validity of Score Card: GATE 2020 score card will be valid for three years from the date of declaration of result.

  • Exam City: The candidate can choose THREE cities from the list of examination cities. The first and second choices must be from the same GATE zone and third choice can be from any GATE zone.
