IS executes 250 women who refused to become sex slaves

The Islamic State (IS) has reportedly executed 250 girls in northern Iraq for refusing to become sex slaves.

The girls had been threatened to accept temporary marriages to the terrorists and were murdered when the girls refused, sometimes alongside their families, in Iraq’s second largest city of Mosul.

Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday celebrated with great cheer

Britain on Thursday celebrated the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II with gun salutes and fireworks.

Prime Minister David Cameron paid rich tributes to the U.K.’s oldest and longest-serving monarch calling her a “Rock of strength” for the country and the Commonwealth.

Mexico petrochemical plant blast: 3 killed, over 100 injured

An explosion rocked a petrochemical plant on Mexico’s southern Gulf coast killingthree workers and injuring more than 100 people. The explosion caused evacuations in the area as toxin-filled cloud was blown into the air.

The state-run oil company, Petroleos Mexicanos, said 136 workers had been hurt and three were killed in the blast on Wednesday afternoon in Coatzacoalcos.

Pachauri steps down as member of TERI’s council

K. Pachauri, accused of sexual harassment by his former female colleagues in the recent past, has stepped down as a member of the governing council of The Energy and Resources Institute’s (TERI) “to get engaged in other interests.”

The announcement came right after a media report which said the organisation has decided to “sever” its association with Mr. Pachauri even though his employment contract with TERI expires in 2017.

President’s Rule in Uttarakhand quashed by High Court

The Uttarakhand High Court, on Thursday, quashed the order of the Central government that had put the State under President’s Rule on March 27.

The Division Bench of the Court has ordered that a floor test must be held in the Uttarakhand Assembly on April 29 where former Chief Minister Harish Rawat’s claim of having majority support shall be put to test.

PM to visit U.S. in June for summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend a bilateral summit with President Barack Obama in June, most likely on the 7thand 8th in U.S.

The agenda is still being worked out, but his itinerary will in all likelihood include an address to the joint session of the U.S. Congress.

Study says Chemicals in soap, nail polish may cause obesity

Exposure to chemicals found in products like plastics, soap or nail polish may affect the amount of fat stored in the body, a new study has claimed.

Phthalates which are chemicals that give plastic its bendy stretchcould be harming people’s health.

“Phthalate exposure can be closely associated with the rise of different types of disease development,” said the study’s lead author Lei Yin, from the University of Georgia (UGA).

Latest version of Google Chromecast and Chromecast Audionow in India

Google on Wednesday introduced the latest version of its media-streaming device Chromecast in India. The tech giant also launched the new Chromecast Audio.

Chromecast was first introduced a year ago while Chromecast Audio was introduced in September 2015 for the first time.

Chromecast enables users to stream any content, including games and video from their mobile phone to television while Chromecast Audioallows users to stream audio from mobile phone to any speaker.

Both the devices have been priced at Rs 3,399.

IPL2016: Sunrisers surprise Gujarat Lions

Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Gujarat Lions without losing a single wicket at Rajkot on Thursday.

Openers David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan helped the Sunrisersto reach the target with 10 wickets and 31 balls to spare.

Gujarat Lions made 135 for 8 in 20 overs and Sunrisers easily achieved the target, making 137 for 0 in just 14.5 overs.

Silvio Berlusconi’s Mediaset fined

Italy’s antitrust authority fined Silvio Berlusconi’s Mediaset more than 50 million euros ($56.5 million) for breaching competition laws during the 2014 sale of soccer TV rights. Mediaset said it would appeal the fine.

Also, Sky Italia was fined 4 million euros. Business tycoon Rupert Murdoch’s 21st Century Fox owns majority share in Sky Italia.

SunEdison files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection

U.S. solar energy company SunEdison Inc filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Thursday.

SunEdison was one of the fastest growing U.S. renewable energy developer, but it got into a $12 billion debt after embarking on an aggressive acquisition strategy.

Wipro stock tanks 7%; Rs 10,414 cr wiped off market valuation

Shares of Bengaluru based IT major Wipro tanked 7 per cent on Thursday, wiping off Rs 10,414 crore from its market valuation, after its March quarter earnings missed the expectations.

The stock of the country’s third-largest IT firm slumped 7 per cent to settle at Rs 559.20 on BSE. During the day, it dipped 7.44 per cent to Rs 556.55.

Pharma industry: Anti-dumping duty likely on a chemical

India might impose anti-dumping duty of up to $279.78 per tonne on imports of a chemical used by pharma, agro and fragrance industries from China and Russia.

Directorate General of Anti-Dumping and Allied Duties (DGAD) has recommended to the revenue department to impose the levy ranging between $122.14 and $ 279.78 per tonne on the imports of ‘Methylene Chloride’, to stem alleged dumping (pricing goods below their cost for export markets) by exporting countries.
