Fossils of giant rats as big as a small dog discovered in Timor

Fossils of seven giant rat species in East Timor have been discovered by Archaeologists.The largest of the fossils is up to 10 times the size of modern rats, almost that of a small dog. 12 quakes jolt Andaman & Nicobar islands and around in 24 hours

No tsunami alert has been issued.The sea around the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago has witnessed 12 earthquakes in 24 hours, with almost all measuring 5 and more on the Richter scale.

The region on Sunday saw nine quakes, of these; one was recorded in North Sumatra region in Indonesia while others have been recorded in and around the Andaman and Nicobar islands.

Cyclone to hit Tamil Nadu

Bay of Bengal low-pressure area intensified into a well-marked depression bringing copious rainfall, causing inundation of many low lying areas.

S. R. Ramanan,Deputy Director of the Meteorological Department, told ANI that the depression in the Bay of Bengal is 110 kilometres away from land. It is expected to make landfall between 12 to 2:30 p.m. close to Puducherry.

“In the next 12 hours, we expect it to become a deep depression. It may possibly result in a cyclone storm later,” he added.

The depression is 300 km south-east from Puducherry coast. It is likely to move north-west.

Most parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry heavy rain are experiencing since Sunday.

Normal life has been affected due to intermittent rainfall in most parts of coastal districts since Sunday.

Three people have lost their lives so far.
