CDS – Combined Defence Services Examination

The UPSC conducts the Combined Defence Services Exam twice a year.

Candidates writing this exam can then apply for admissions to the following defence academies in India:

Indian Military Academy (IMA) – only men can apply

Indian Naval Academy (INA) – only men can apply

Air Force Academy (AFA) – only men can apply

Officers Training Academy (OTA) – both men and women can apply

General Knowledge

Elementary Mathematics

All subject exams will be 2 hours long with 120 questions. The total marks awarded will be 100 in each subject exam.

There will be negative marking, that is, penalty for wrong answers.

The Officers Training Academy (OTA) does not need Elementary Mathematics results for admission.
